You are curious about TRE® and a little nervous about the first session. Knowing what to expect usually makes it easier to arrive.
In short: your first session usually includes a conversation about your needs, the gentle exercises, a short tremor phase you control, and time to rest and talk. You build up gradually.
What to expect
A beginner session is not a test of fitness or bravery. The provider's job is to adapt the practice to you. Together you may explore gentle exercises, breathing and grounding, the natural tremor if it arises, and how to begin, pause and stop. The intention is not to push your body into a particular reaction.
You do not need previous experience with TRE®, yoga or meditation. If you are healthy enough to go to the gym, you are generally healthy enough to practise TRE®, though previous movement experience can help. If you have health concerns, check with a doctor first and tell your provider.
Preparation checklist
- Clothing: comfortable clothes you can move and lie down in.
- Space: a quiet room with enough floor space for a mat.
- Surface: a yoga mat or blanket, plus a cushion if you like.
- Water: a glass nearby for afterwards.
- Timing: leave a little unhurried time after the session to rest.
- If online: a stable connection and a device with a camera, placed so the provider can see you safely.
Will I feel emotional?
Some people do, some don't. There is no right or wrong way to experience TRE®. If feelings rise, you can slow down, open your eyes, look around the room and stop the tremor. See is TRE® safe? for who should take extra care.
